Day off today! Settled down with friends to watch the royal wedding; the BBC HD coverage was our choice. Best moment: the Aston Martin. And the worst bits: interviews with the crowd. Don’t let ordinary people on the TV. Really, don’t. And do something about Fearne Cotton.

Cooked a big lunch for our guests: roast pork, new potatoes, cucumber sandwiches, tomato sandwiches, home-made pizza, and salad. We ate well. Andrew made a splendid pavlova, and we drank Pimms throughout the day.

Felt too full to have any dinner. Might manage a small snack before bedtime. Meanwhile, sipping prosecco, and relaxing into the evening.

Not used to having a day off. It feels like more like a Saturday or Sunday night. Wonder what we’ll do for the weekend?

Best thing BBC Four has ever done is to show old episodes of Top of the Pops, at 7.30pm on Thursdays. We’re working through 1976; well before I started watching TOTP, but Kate is familiar with much of the music. Love that Brotherhood of Man have topped the charts for every one I’ve seen so far. How long was Save Your Kisses For Me number one?

Saw this on YouTube. Despite being edited with a sledgehammer, I found it rather amusing, and it made me wish that political discourse could routinely take the form of light comic songs. Doesn’t she look like Annabel Goldie, though.
