Drobo is pretty good on three counts: the build quality is excellent, it is very easy to use, and it is their core business, so probably won’t disappear. True about being pricey, though.

I’m serving video through iTunes at the moment, but I’m ripping all the videos as standards-based H.264/ACC, so the content will be platform-agnostic.
