Andrew got back from Eastercon this morning. Kate got back from Kent this afternoon. So now I’m watching TV with company, which is a lot more fun than sitting by myself. I made a Quorn-mince lasagne for tea, with some garlic bread. I think Andrew appreciated some home-cooked food after days of hotel food, and Kate paid me the compliment of saying it was like the ones she cooks. Mind you, they did comment that my garlic bread was quite unlike normal garlic bread.

I haven’t posted much over the past fortnight because I’ve been suffering with a nasty cold, and I haven't had enthusiasm for writing anything. It has been enough of a struggle to do some productive work. Anyway, now I’m feeling much better. Maybe my constitution was kick-started by the chocolate and the hot cross buns that Mary and I consumed at the weekend.

We didn’t get through all the hot cross buns at the weekend, so the leftovers are in the freezer. Maybe Kate will eat some for breakfast.

It is still odd being without Beth. She is due back on Friday, together with my parents who will be here for the weekend. I’m looking forward to rewatching Saturday’s Dr Who when Beth gets back — however enjoyable it was, it will be so much better when watched with an excitable child.

I’ve been watching Buffy seasons 4 to 7 over the past few weeks. I’d watched the first four seasons of Buffy when they were first shown on TV, and then bought the DVD box sets when they were released. But I’d never got around to seeing seasons five to seven until now (apart from the “Once More, With Feeling” musical episode, which I’d seen many times, bought the soundtrack, bought the sheet music, and plonkety-plinked my way through on the piano).

I really enjoyed watching these; to my taste the series got better and better through the seasons, and the dynamics of plot, emotion, and character were appealingly managed. OK, so Buffy herself was rather annoying, but everything else about the show approached perfection.

Now I have the Angel box sets to watch. I’ve seen seasons 1 to 3 and 5 before, but season 4 will be new to me.

Tonight’s tipple of choice was Crabbie’s Ginger Beer. I’d not seen it before, but I found it at Morrison’s last weekend, so felt obliged to buy some. I’m rather fond of ginger beer.

It has a good gingery taste, but a rather intense sweetness which I found overpowering. Definitely good to try, but not an everyday quaffing ginger beer for me. I’d prefer more heat to the ginger, and less sweetness.

Andrew seemed to enjoy his bottle.
