No guarantee

Cheque guarantee cards will no longer be valid from 30 June this year. I got a leaflet about it with my bank statement in the post today; maybe it is old news, but I hadn't heard about it before. I guess that the few businesses that still accept cheques won't for long.

It is part of the gradual phasing out of cheques; the target end date for cheques is 31 October 2018.

Thinking about it, I don't think I ever guaranteed a cheque by card. Only time I ever used a cheque was when I was sending it by post.

And these days I use Paypal or my debit card for the things I'd send a cheque for.

I'm a genealogist and still buy a lot of things from family history societies. They're often too small scale to be set up for PayPal or anything else. Hence my still sending cheques.
