For Your Eyes Only
Our daily Bond-film watching reached “For Your Eyes Only” today. It is my favourite Bond film, by quite a wide margin. For a Bond film, the plot makes reasonable sense, and all the characters have motivations for their actions. And the Bond-allies/enemies Julian Glover and Topol are truly excellent, giving charismatic performances.
The action sequences are decent too, particularly the ski chase, and the mountaineering towards the end of the film. It is a wonder that they managed to go from the silliness of “Moonraker” and then make something as good as this. (With all that is good about the film, it is easy to ignore the director John Glen’s obsession with startling pigeons.)
Bill Conti’s soundtrack music ain’t so good, though. Not very Bond.
