Since I mostly worked from home anyway, the last year hasn’t changed my work all that much. But it has been weird having kateaw at home all year, and Elizabeth around for a fair bit of skool-from-home too. Before all this happened I was used to having the house to myself during the day.
I've gone from hardly ever working from home to a year of it now.
And my deaprtment manager and line manager have both agreed with my assessment that, once things retun to "normal" (if they ever do), I should only ned to be physically present in the office about a half-day (perhaps as much as one full day) a fortnight, so I get to keep the 15 hours of week I gained from the cneed to commute daily, and save over 200 quid a year from not needing a travelcard. Which is nice — the downside being that I do actually get on very well with most of my colleagues and I miss being able to stop by their desks for a chat.
I’d like to think that collectively we’ll be making a big impact on the world by commuting less.
I’ve found that having all of my colleagues being at home has been a great leveller. Now we have company meetings where everyone individually connects to Zoom, so I end up learning the names and faces of people who previously were just one of the anonymous many at a remote office.
Yup, I saw the news story about that, which made me think about LJ for the first time in forever. That, and explaining to my Tumblr-obsessed teenager that there was an internet before Tumblr, and it was called LiveJournal.
