Today was the last day of Beth’s term. Holiday starts here! She finished at lunchtime, and Kate took her for lunch at the harbour café. We marked the end of term with tea out at Bella Italia, one of Beth’s favourites. She’s keen on the pizzas, and enjoys the large ice cream sundae designed for sharing.

Back to school on Wednesday 27 April. What will we do with Beth until then? Well, she has plenty of piano practice to do, a few art projects on the go, ten days to spend in Spain with my parents, an episode of Doctor Who to watch, and then some Easter chocolate. It will be quite a month!

We had a fun dinner out this evening at Bella Italia; Beth and I went into town with [livejournal.com profile] qidane, and [livejournal.com profile] kateaw and [livejournal.com profile] zephyravictrix met us there on their way home from Dundee. Andrew had some Tesco vouchers to spend (apparently the conversation rate from Tesco points to restaurant vouchers is very favourable), so thanks to Andrew to paying for dinner!

Beth and Kate are upstairs for story time at the moment. Kate has been reading the “Swallows and Amazons” books to Beth, and they have just started Peter Duck. Beth has been greatly enjoying them.

Last night when I checked on Beth as I went to bed, I found her fast asleep holding her iPhone. (She has my old iPhone — without a SIM — for playing music and games.) When I tucked her in, she turned over and flopped the hand holding the iPhone over the side of her bed, dangled it there for a while, then pull her hand back under the covers and started snuggling the iPhone. All without waking up. Oddly enough, Kate sometimes does a very similar thing when she falls asleep while playing Scrabble on her iPhone. Like mother, like daughter.

Had a very wet walk into town today. And then got wetter later.

We had lunch at Bella Italia. Kate, Beth and I had spaghetti in tomato sauce; Mary (who is staying with us for the weekend) had something meatier. It was quite busy and the service was slow. Beth fidgeted a lot. She was supplied with an activity booklet, a game, and some crayons. I’m not convinced that is the best approach for her — she is capable of sitting at a table in a restaurant without needing something to distract her, but when she starts the meal with kiddie activity distractions I have a feeling that she becomes more bored and fidgety later.

A damp wander along South Street later, purchasing Kate a tartan shawl and Beth some new pink wellies on the way, we had a drink and a biscuit at the Byre, before finding that blue skies and sunshine had emerged for the walk home. Andrew had arrived just a few minutes before we got home, and he took me out for a spin in his new old car, a dark blue ex-Police Volvo estate. I feel he ought to have “To Protect and Serve” written on the doors. Or maybe it should be referred to as Ford Timelord.
